Canadian Judges to 2014 World Championships Selected

January 14, 2014 - The two judges that will represent Canada at the 2014 WBTF World Championships in Nottingham, England have been selected. Joining Ron Kopas (CBTF Judges' Rep) will be Stephanie Hewis.

Both Ron and Stephanie are WBTF Master Judges and are certified to judge all WBTF World Championship events. Each is a very experienced Canadian judge, having judged at numerous Provincial and National Championships over the past five years.

On the world stage, Ron was one of Canada's judges at the 2013 WBTF International Cup (The Netherlands), 2012 WBTF World Championships (France), 2011 WBTF International Cup (USA), the 2010 WBTF World Championships (Norway) and the 2008 WBTF World Championships and International Cup (Ireland). Stephanie was one of Canada's at the 2012 WBTF World Championships (France), and the 2008 WBTF World Championships and International Cup (Ireland).

Continuing with the policy implemented in 2010, all applicants were assessed by a Judge Selection Committee on three factors:

  • the results of a series of practical judging assignments
  • their judging experience and other qualities as reported on their application

The Selection Committee, appointed in November, was comprised of CBTF Technical Chair Elan Paluck, CBTF Past Technical Chair Karen Gratton, CBTF Judges Rep Ron Kopas, Jill Ford (AB), Jen Meron (ON), Alison Pickrell (SK) and Leisha Strachan (MB). The CBTF Board extends its thanks to this group for the thought and consideration they exercised while determining this judging panel.

Congratulations to Ron and Stephanie as they prepare for this exciting opportunity.
