Canadians Compete at 2010 Congressional Cup

March 21, 2010 - Six Canadian athletes competed at the recent Congressional Cup 2010 Invitational competition held at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The Congressional Cup Invitational brings the best twirlers representing different organizations (CBTF, CNBTA, USTA, NBTA) in a single all-around competition. The Invitees compete in Solo, 2-Baton and Freestyle events to determine their all-around ranking.

CBTF athletes invited to participate in the Invitational were:

  • Matthew Johnson, Tornados, Toronto
  • Alicia Larkin, Sundown Optimist Buffalo Gals, Regina
  • Kayla McKinnon, Sundown Optimist Buffalo Gals, Regina
  • Samantha Metelski, Camaros, Oshawa
  • Sara Thibeault, Sundown Optimist Buffalo Gals, Regina
  • Kiera West, Sundown Optimist Buffalo Gals, Regina

Brenda Cooper was invited as a CBTF Judge.

Men and Women compete in separate divisions. There are no age divisions in the Invitational. In the Women's division, Canada's highest placing athletes were:

  • Alicia Larkin finished 7th in Solo
  • Sarah Thibeault finished 7th in 2-Baton
  • Kayla McKinnon finished 5th in Freestyle
  • Sarah Thibeault placed 9th in the overall result

In the Men's division, Matthew Johnson placed 4th in Solo and 2-Baton and 2nd in Freestyle, returning a 4th in the overall result.
