Hiring Policy of USTA and WBTF Judges
CBTF shall permit the hiring of certified United States Twirling Association (USTA) and World Baton Twirling Federation (WBTF) Judges for open, provincial and national competitions providing the following conditions are met:
- The Judge must be a member in good standing with the USTA and/or WBTF and must be qualified to judge specific CBTF events (see below) and/or current World Baton Twirling Federation (WBTF) Team Trial and International Cup events.
- Judge must register with CBTF as a Type C Member (Technical Association) and pay the applicable “new member” membership fee in the province she/he will be judging in. The province may choose to pay the fee on the judge’s behalf but it must be paid in full, in Canadian funds, before the competition date.
- The Head Judge for each competition must be a CBTF Judge.
- CBTF judges shall be the majority on any panel.
- USTA/WBTF judges will receive the same hourly judging rate, per diem rate and travel mileage rate as CBTF judges. Payment will be made in Canadian Funds.
- Uniform requirements – red jacket & black pants (CBTF uniform) or black suit (WBTF uniform).
- Each USTA judge must be provided with current CBTF Role Model DVD, samples of CBTF score sheets of events they will judge, copy of competition brochure, copy of the current Talking Technically and any other information deemed necessary by the provincial technical chair, provincial judges rep and competition director well in advance of the competition.
- The WBTF judge must be provided with a current WBTF Role Model DVD well in advance of the competition.
- Out-of-country judges must be provided with the name and email address of the National Judges Rep and National Technical Chair should they require assistance or clarification prior to the competition.
- USTA judges may be hired to judge the following CBTF events:
• Solo, 2-Baton & 3-Baton
• Solo Dance Twirl
• Duet
• Dance Twirl Team
• Small & Large Teams
USTA/WBTF judges who are certified to judge WBTF Team Trial events may be hired to judge the following:
• Level A Compulsories, Short Program, Level A & B Freestyles, Pairs & Teams – using WBTF World Championship judging & scoring procedures and the WBTF role model videos for these events
USTA/WBTF judges may not judge the following events:
• CBTF Pre-Events
• CBTF Medley
• CBTF Level C & B Compulsories
• CBTF Corps* - if judge is certified to judge corps events in the USA, they may be considered to judge CBTF Parade Corps and Theme Production. - Only those USTA judges listed on the current USTA Judges List and those WBTF judges listed on the current WBTF Judges List can be contacted. These lists shall be available to provinces requesting them through the CBTF Technical Chairperson. Please do not contact USTA directly to obtain this listing.
