Ages & Age Divisions - WBTF

1987 FTM MOTION #4
  That Canada ask to have the Junior Women's age division moved up one year to include the 15th year (Junior 0-15).

 

1989 FTM MOTION #13 (Ratified - 1989 FBM - Motion #16)
 

Nancy Beachin moved that age divisions for all classifications will be run on the Calendar Year. Athletes will compete at their age as of midnight, December 31st for the next calendar year - with the exception of WBTF events.

1990 FTM MOTION #16 (Ratified - 1990 FBM - Motion #18)
  Wendy Harmen moved that the CBTF Technical Rep on Canada's behalf propose that the age for WBTF Junior Freestyles for Men and Women be in their 15th year as of December 31st of the competition year.

 

 

1996 STM PROPOSAL #34 (Ratified - 96 FBM - Motion #9)
  Karen Gratton proposed that Compulsory Events at CBTF-sanctioned Open Competitions are to be run using the WBTF Age Divisions (ie: Junior 0-15, Senior 16 & over - age between Jan 1 and Dec 31 of the World Championship year) - not the CBTF Age Divisions (ie: 4-8, 9-11, etc.)

 

1997 FBM MOTION #13
 

Betty Davis moved that any athlete under the age of 18 years who wishes to travel with the Canadian Contingent to a World Championship must be accompanied by their coach, parent or guardian. If this arrangement is not possible, then it shall be the responsibility of the parent or guardian to make satisfactory arrangements for the athlete's care.

2010 SBM MOTION #10 (AMENDED 2012 FBM, MOTION #29)
 

Karen Gratton moved to adopt STM Proposal #2 which reads as follows:

  • That CBTF shall offer Freestyle/Compulsories/Short Program/Pairs at the Canadian Winner/Championships
  • That level A athletes shall compete under WBTF age divisions
  • That level B athletes shall compete under CBTF age divisions
  • That Freestyle shall be combined with Compulsories/Short Program, following WBTF tabulation procedures
  • That level A and B Freestyle & Pairs shall follow the same procedure for Preliminary and Final rounds, and that this be the same procedure as for other CBTF individual events
  • That there are no Grand Nationals for the Level A Freestyle or Pairs Champions
  • That awards for the Level A & B Freestyle & Pairs follow the same procedure as for other CBTF Individual events

2012 FBM MOTION 29 (2012 FTM Prop #14)
 

Elan Paluck moved that the following rules and procedures shall be in effect for the Canadian Level A and B Freestyle and Pair Winner/Championship Events.

Qualification Procedure

  • All level A and B freestyle and pair athletes must enter and compete at their provincials in these events and levels in the same year.

Age Divisions

  • At Canadians, Level B freestyle and pairs shall compete under CBTF age divisions (the same as other Canadian winner events with age determined as of December 31st.
  • At Canadians, Level A freestyle and pairs shall compete under WBTF age divisions (junior or senior) with age between January 1st and December 31st of the competition year.

Rounds

  • Each division shall follow the same format as other Canadian Winner/Championship events.

Compulsory Moves

  • Compulsories shall be performed by all Level B and Junior A athletes.
  • For World Championship years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from WBTF, the Junior A athletes shall perform that same set at the Canadian Championships. Level B athletes shall perform the opposite set at the Canadian Winner event.
  • For International Cup years, CBTF officials shall draw the set number for Level A with the opposite set to be performed by Level B athletes.

Short Program

  • Short Program shall be performed by all Level A Senior athletes.

Music Tests

  • No music tests shall be run.

Grand Nationals

  • There shall be no Grand National Level A freestyle or pair championships.

Awards

  • All divisions shall be awarded to top five. Type of awards and awards procedures shall be the same as for other Canadian Winner/Championship events.

Other Stipulations

  • WBTF costume rules, time limits, score sheets and masters, judging methods, tabulation procedures and other WBTF competition procedures shall apply.

CLARIFICATION: This shall rescind the 2005 motion and amend the 2010 motion

 

2013 Fall Conference MOTION #14 (2013 Pre-FTM Proposal 3)
 

Karen Gratton proposed that the following rules and procedures shall be in effect for all Provincial Level B and A Freestyle and Pair Winner/Championship Events or Level A Provincial Team Trials.

Qualification Procedure
- At Provincial Championship events, Level A Freestyle and Pairs shall compete under WBTF Age Divisions (junior or senior) with age between January 1st and December 31st of the competition year. Level B freestyle and pairs shall compete under CBTF age divisions.

Rounds
- Level B Freestyles and Pairs shall have 1 or 2 rounds (competition officials’ decision).
- In World Championship years, Level A Freestyles, Pairs and Teams shall have 2 rounds.
- In International Cup years, Level A freestyles and pairs shall have 1 or 2 rounds (competition officials’ decision).

Compulsory Moves
- Compulsory moves shall count for 25% of the athlete’s score and shall be performed by all Level B and Junior Level A athletes.
- In World Championship years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from WBTF, the Junior Level A athletes shall perform that same set at their Provincial Team Trials. Level B athletes shall perform the opposite set.
- For International Cup years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from the CBTF Technical Chair, the Junior Level A shall perform that same set at provincials. Level B shall perform the opposite set.

Short Program
- Short Program shall count for 25% of the athlete’s score and shall be performed by all Level A Senior athletes.

Music Tests/Costume Checks
- Unless time permits, it is not necessary that costume or music checks be run. Official music timing is done during the athlete or pair’s actual performance.

Awards
- All divisions shall be awarded to top five. Type of awards and awards procedures shall be the same as for other Provincial W/C events.

Berths
- Canadian Team Trials: Each province shall be allowed to send up to 5 entrants in each Level A freestyle/pair/team division with an additional berth earned for each Final Round placement at the previous Canadian Team Trial. There shall be no alternates sent with a Provincial Contingent.
- Canadian Winner/Championships: Level B athletes/teams or pairs that compete in their Provincial Winner event become eligible to enter and compete in that same Canadian Winner event. Level A athletes/teams or pairs that compete in their provincial Championship (in International Cup years) or Team Trial (in World Championship years) events, are eligible to enter and compete in that same Canadian event.

Other Stipulations
- WBTF costume rules, time limits, score sheets and masters, judging methods, tabulation procedures and other WBTF competition procedures shall apply.

2013 Fall Conference MOTION #14 (2013 Pre-FTM Proposal 3)
 

Karen Gratton proposed that the following Minimum Ages shall be in effect for CBTF competitions:

CBTF PRE-COMPETITIVE EVENTS – (Motion #19, 2008 SBM) Children aged 4 and up may participate in the Pre-Competitive events.

CBTF OPEN COMPETITIONS – (Motion #19, 2008 SBM) The minimum age to enter all competitive individual/duet/group events shall be 7 years of age (as per CBTF Age Definition).

PROVINCIAL WINNER/CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS - The minimum age to enter all competitive individual/duet/group provincial W/C events shall be 7 years of age (as per CBTF Age Definition). Primary aged groups may enter Provincial W/C group events however, should the group wish to enter Canadian W/C, it must compete in the Juvenile category.

CANADIAN WINNER/CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS – (Motion #26, 2011 FBM re: elimination of Level BN primary & juvenile age divisions at Canadians) shall apply for all individual/duet W/C events. For W/C group events, athletes aged 7 or 8 years old (as per CBTF Age Definition) may be members of a Juvenile/Junior/Senior team. Note that a Primary group may compete in Canadian W/C group events however it must enter the Juvenile category as Primary is not offered at the national level.

CLARIFICATION: Once the Juvenile age division is fully eliminated from Canadian W/C in 2016, a possible revision to the minimum age for groups shall be reviewed.

INTERNATIONAL CUP QUALIFIER –(Motion #29, 2005 FBM) Athletes in all ICQ events must be twelve years old in the year of the International Cup Competition they are qualifying for (as per WBTF Age Definition).

PROVINCIAL AND CANADIAN TEAM TRIALS - the minimum age an athlete may enter is 7 years old (as per WBTF Age Definition) however if an athlete below the age of 12 qualifies for Worlds, she/he shall forfeit her/his position on the Canadian Contingent and shall be replaced by the next qualifying athlete who is 12 years of age or older.

 

2014 FBM MOTION #21
 

Elan moved that 2014 FTM Proposal #12 be accepted:

To eliminate single age divisions for Level BN Senior and Collegiate athletes. Competitors shall compete either as Level BN 15-17 or Level BN 18+.
