  3. Must not take the place of another provincial duet (ie: a duet in which both members reside in the same province)

Tina Larson proposed that, when there are more than twelve (12) athletes in a single age Level C Marching Event, the competition director be allowed to split them into two or more groups. Each division would be split equally by birthdates with, in the case of an odd number of entrants, the largest number of athletes being put into the last grouping.

EXAMPLE: Level C Military 12 with 21 athletes could be split into Level C Military 12-A (10 athletes) and Level C Military 12-B (11 athletes).

  Karen Gratton proposed that Compulsory Events at CBTF-sanctioned Open Competitions are to be run using the WBTF Age Divisions (ie: Junior 0-15; Senior 16 & over - age between Jan 1 and Dec 31 of the World Championship year) - not the CBTF Age Divisions (ie: 4-8, 9-11, etc.).

Nancy Beachin proposed that Forward Motion be added as a minor event, using a standardized routine of 16 counts. This event would be held at the same time as Basic Strut using march music.

DIRECTIVE: Maureen to prepare a video tape and coaching notes of the Standard Forward Motion routine for distribution through the CBTF Library Co-Ordinator. Maureen to ask Myra Kirk to prepare score sheets and master sheets for this event. Alison to hold a Coaches Mtg. during Nationals to teach the new event to coaches. Ron to include this information in the next Judges Update.

Combining Freestyle and Compulsories is optional to the Competition Director.

EG: They could offer:

  • Compulsories - place with the scores
  • Freestyle - place with the scores
  • Offer Both - combine scores for placing (ie: 25% for Compulsories and 75% for Freestyle)

Joyce Ormshaw moved that, at Provincial and National Championships, the Level A Compulsory Events will run as per the current WBTF process. The Level A athletes will perform either Set A or B. The sets will be assigned by random draw prior to music tests. Juniors and Seniors will perform opposite sets.

Note: We will follow the WBTF process of reciting the short compulsory description prior to each compulsory.

  4. Maximum of 2 competitors competing in the same set
  5. Athletes will wear compulsory suits
  6. Event will be open to all competitive athletes (ie: type A membership)

That CBTF adopt the WBTF International Cup Event Guidelines for Level B and Level A Solo and 2-Baton as the "CBTF Judges Solo & 2-Baton Event Guidelines". These shall be supported by video examples presented on DVDs which reflect the scoring ranges (ie: 2-3 examples per range). The existing CBTF Role Model Tapes will be replaced by these DVDs. Written descriptions called "scripts" of each example will accompany the DVDs and Guideline Chart.

 

2008 SBM MOTION #17
 

Karen Gratton moved that Proposal #2 of the 2008 Winter Technical Meeting be accepted as follows:

That the group name Theme Corps be changed to "Theme Production" and be accepted as a revised Major Event.

  1. Time Limit shall be 3-5 minutes (with 10 second leeway either way)
  2. Batons must be twirled by all members at some point in the routine but not necessarily by all members at the same time.
  3. Size shall be 10 or more members.
  4. No tarp flooring.
  5. Set Up & Take Down - 4:00 minutes extra time allotted.
  6. Props may be handled by people other than group members during Set Up/Take Down, if necessary.
  7. Judging is the same as Theme Corps with focus on entertainment and performance qualities based on General Effect.
  8. Prime consideration to be given to athletes' safety and the CBTF Risk Management Policy.

That CBTF Groups be restructured as follows:

  1. Pre-Group - 3 or more members; remain the same as per current rules.
  2. Dance Twirl Team - Small 3-6 members; Large-7+ members; remain the same as per current rules.
  3. CBTF Team - 6-8 members; remain the same as per current WBTF rules.
  4. CBTF Group - 10-20 members; remain the same as per current WBTF rules.
  5. Theme Production - see Motion #17, 2008 SBM
  6. Parade Corps - 10+ members; remain the same as per current rules.

Intent: This will be monitored for 2 years and then reviewed and assessed by the Technical Committee & Board of Directors.

Directive: OBTA will develop role model DVDs and judging tools.

That the minimum age to participate in all competitive Individual, Duet and Group events shall be 7 years of age as at December 31st.

Karen Gratton moved to accept the amendment to Proposal #9 from the 2008 FTM that now reads:

That, while the Pom Pom Team event is in its pilot phase, a Pom Pom coach must hold any type of membership in CBTF through his/her provincial organization. Should a Pom Pom coach wish to enter his/her team into a CBTF sanctioned competition, she/he must be endorsed by a certified CBTF L2 coach.

CLARIFICATION: Although the concept was agreed upon, the wording from the 2008 FTM was changed for better clarity and understanding.

Karen Gratton moved that Proposal #1 from the March 7, 2009 Technical Committee Conference Call meeting be accepted as follows:

That the 15 B Compulsories be split into two Sets - Set A and Set B - using the same compulsory set numbers as for the Level A Compulsories. The Set Letter must be announced at least two weeks prior to the competition.

CLARIFICATION: The short explanation title for each compulsory shall be called by the announcer. Example: "Compulsory #1, RH Vertical Fingertwirls, Begin".

CLARIFICATION: Open competitions and Provincial team trials have the option to choose one Set, use the 15 compulsories (in numerical order) or have the athletes perform first Set A followed immediately by Set B.

CLARIFICATION: The Set Numbers are as follows: Set A - 1,4,6,8,9,11,14,15 Set B - 2,3,5,7,10,12,13,14

CBTF PRE-COMPETITIVE EVENTS – (Motion #19, 2008 SBM) Children aged 4 and up may participate in the Pre-Competitive events.

CBTF OPEN COMPETITIONS – (Motion #19, 2008 SBM) The minimum age to enter all competitive individual/duet/group events shall be 7 years of age (as per CBTF Age Definition).

PROVINCIAL WINNER/CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS - The minimum age to enter all competitive individual/duet/group provincial W/C events shall be 7 years of age (as per CBTF Age Definition). Primary aged groups may enter Provincial W/C group events however, should the group wish to enter Canadian W/C, it must compete in the Juvenile category.

CANADIAN WINNER/CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS – (Motion #26, 2011 FBM re: elimination of Level BN primary & juvenile age divisions at Canadians) shall apply for all individual/duet W/C events. For W/C group events, athletes aged 7 or 8 years old (as per CBTF Age Definition) may be members of a Juvenile/Junior/Senior team. Note that a Primary group may compete in Canadian W/C group events however it must enter the Juvenile category as Primary is not offered at the national level.

CLARIFICATION: Once the Juvenile age division is fully eliminated from Canadian W/C in 2016, a possible revision to the minimum age for groups shall be reviewed.

INTERNATIONAL CUP QUALIFIER –(Motion #29, 2005 FBM) Athletes in all ICQ events must be twelve years old in the year of the International Cup Competition they are qualifying for (as per WBTF Age Definition).

PROVINCIAL AND CANADIAN TEAM TRIALS - the minimum age an athlete may enter is 7 years old (as per WBTF Age Definition) however if an athlete below the age of 12 qualifies for Worlds, she/he shall forfeit her/his position on the Canadian Contingent and shall be replaced by the next qualifying athlete who is 12 years of age or older.

 

2013 Fall Conference MOTION #24 (2013 Technical Proposal 4)
 

Maureen Johnson moved to adopt the Extended Solo Music Pilot Project for Level BI & A at Open and Provincial Winner/Championship competitions for the 2013-14 competition season. The time will be approximately 2:15 in length.

Intent: All provinces are encouraged to participate and report back at the 2014 FTM.

  I move that the CBTF adopt the Awards Policy as noted on the attached appendix. (refer to CBTF Competition Awards Policy)

Elan moved that 2014 FTM Proposal #10 be accepted:

That Junior, Senior and Collegiate athletes competing in Solo Dance Twirl shall use the current WBTF Artistic Twirl music selection.

CLARIFICATION: Primary and Juvenile athletes shall continue to use the current CBTF Solo Dance Twirl music selection.
